Lifting a Load
It is the season of yard work and my go to glove for getting it done has been the Vermonter work glove Vermont Glove. Here at our lake house in Northern Michigan there seems to be an endless list of outdoor projects to attack. The projects this summer are putting down new tar on the driveway, moving rocks around the front garden, and clearing the fallen sticks out back by the pole barn. Usually by the time we head back to Colorado my hands are pretty beat up from the blisters of cheap work gloves.
This summer I am trying out the Vermonter Glove from Vermont Glove to see if my outdoor chores could be a bit more enjoyable. Vermont Glove makes some great products. Last winter I had blast skiing in the Jefflo Mitt. I found these mittens to be super warm and really durable. The company Vermont Glove is known for their durable products. All of their products are made in house in their factory in Randolf, Vermont. With over 100 years of handwear manufacturing experience, Vermont Gloves really know their stuff.
About the Vermonter Glove
The Vermonter Glove is Vermont Glove’s flagship work glove. They are built for a wide range of tough tasks, from chainsaw use and heavy-duty weeding to building and everything in between. This glove excels in getting dirty and handling demanding outdoor projects.
One of the standout features of the Vermonter Glove is the goat leather used in its construction. Goat leather is known for its durability and resilience. It doesn’t dry out like many traditional leathers, keeping it soft and supple over time. The goats used for this leather live healthy lives outside in a pasture, contributing to the quality of the leather. Healthy goats make for superior leather, ensuring the gloves are both comfortable and long-lasting.

The construction process of the Vermonter Glove involves using 24 different pieces of leather, each with varying thickness and size. These pieces are meticulously hand-sewn together by skilled craftsmen and women, ensuring each glove meets high standards of quality and durability. Once assembled, the gloves are trimmed and steamed to achieve the perfect shape and fit.

To cater to a wide range of users, the Vermonter Glove comes in sizes from extra small to double extra large. Vermont Glove’s website offers a printable hand sizing guide to help customers find the perfect fit. For my sizing, the medium was perfect, providing a snug yet comfortable fit that enhanced my grip and control during tasks.

Whether tackling heavy-duty yard work or intricate projects, the Vermonter Glove is designed to offer protection, comfort, and durability, making it a reliable companion for any outdoor job.
Thoughts on the Vermonter Gloves
The Vermonter Gloves are high quality. I’m used to gloves that are more or less disposable, wearing them until a finger seam or hole gives out. However, the Vermonter Gloves feel about two or three times as thick as my usual work gloves yet are far more flexible.
This flexibility is noticeable when doing tasks that require dexterity. For example, I used a saw to cut through a couple of roots and I found it easy to hold and manipulate the saw while wearing the gloves. In the past, I’ve had to take off gloves that became too cumbersome for detailed work.

The Vermonter Gloves
The Vermonter Gloves proved to be robust as well. One project I dreaded was moving a large pile of rocks to create a couple of gardens. I feared smashed fingers and beat-up hands, but the gloves protected my hands effectively. After a morning of moving and stacking rocks, the garden foundation was built. When it came time to move some plants, I could easily manipulate hand tools to dig up stray plants and place them in the garden.

Digging Up Stray Plants
Another notable feature is the comfort of the Vermonter Gloves. The inside of the gloves feels great due to the durable yet soft goat leather. This comfort is apparent from the first time you put them on, especially compared to other gloves I’ve owned. The seams of the Vermonter Gloves are on the outside, which looks a bit strange at first but significantly enhances comfort. Having the seams outside prevents any discomfort inside the gloves without affecting performance.
High End Gloves
At $110, these gloves might seem expensive, but considering the craftsmanship, they surpass other work gloves in terms of comfort and durability. Over the lifetime of a pair of Vermonter Gloves, you would likely go through many pairs of cheaper gloves.
