The Therm-A-Rest Uno chair is a new introduction for this year, and is bound to make a splash. It’s small, simple, uses basic camping materials, and sets up in 30 seconds. I honestly didn’t know what to make of it at first. The initial photos I saw made it look a bit feeble and I had my doubts. Envision two Frisbee discs, and that’s about the size of the chair package. It actually doesn’t weigh a whole lot more either.
Then I went about assembling the Uno Chair. Immediately my mind started to go into camping outdoor mode and the various applications where this handy dandy little chair could see some action.
Uno Chair From Therm-A-Rest To The Test
Instructions are provided, but picture some super tiny tent poles which snap together quickly. Then you insert them into the grey base, and add the canvas seat. That’s it! You have an instant chair for whatever outdoor function you can imagine.
The Therm-A-Rest Uno chair does seem small which led me to question the stability for a grown up. As it was my 4 year old’s birthday, she immediately claimed it as her chair which is fine by me. The size and convenience makes this Uno Chair a no-brainer for our camping trips. Then I finally took the chair to task by relaxing next to our outdoor fireplace. Despite its size, the Chair does work great for an adult. I would have to assume there are some size limitations, but my 6’-1” 170 pound frame fit just fine. Turns out the official weight limit is 250 pounds, so there you have it. And the kicker is that it is really comfortable. The base is smaller and round almost creating a rocking chair effect as you can slightly sway without feeling like you would topple.
And the extra bonus is that doubles as a table! Not at the same time, mind you, but with a few quick modifications and assembly changes, a simple small table appears.
Comparing the Uno to its counterpart, the Therm-A-Rest Treo chair makes me think having one of each would be a good thing to mix things up. The Treo is a bit more upright and sits higher more like what you’d envision your traditional lawn chair to be. The Therm-A-Rest Uno chair has a much lower base, and it’s apparently music festival regulation size because you’re really not much higher than if you were sitting on your bottom.

What I really applaud here, is the ingenuity and creativity of the Uno Chair folks. The fold up size is amazing. The assembly is quick and easy. The style is really unique. And the comfort is up to par with the much bigger, bulkier, fold up chair cousins that you are used to.
We are a big car camping family, and this Therma-A-Rest Uno Chair is without a doubt going to be a mainstay for our trips. The size savings in our fully loaded vehicle is a huge bonus. If you are roughing it on a back packing trip, a chair might seem like a luxury, but if you are so inclined to want to have a nice seat. This Uno Chair could easily be carried out into the wilds.

Over time, this little disc chair has grown on me, and have used it for picnics, soccer games, fishing, lawn concerts, and in our backyard. The cuteness, and simplicity, and toughness will really surprise you. Pick one (or two) up, and you’ll appreciate all its many features.
