What happens when one of the top fishing sunglasses designers crafts a pair for everyday wear? The result is the Bajio Caballo Sunglasses. Known for their leadership in both high-performance fishing eyewear and water conservation efforts, Bajio extends its commitment to sustainability into the very heart of their designs. Many of their frames are made from eco-friendly bioplastic, and their lenses are crafted from recycled glass. With this focus on sustainability, Bajio has earned a reputation for creating some of the best fishing sunglasses on the market.
Recently, Bajio has expanded its lineup with collections designed for more than just fishing. The Beach and Surf series brings the same quality and attention to detail that made Bajio a top name in fishing eyewear to sunglasses designed for everyday use. One of the latest additions to the Surf collection, the Caballo sunglasses, are built for beach days, surfing, fishing, and everything in between.
About the Bajio Caballo Sunglasses
The Bajio Caballo Sunglasses feature an oversized design with an extra-large fit and a medium wrap, offering both style and functionality. The frames are available in three distinct color options: Brown Tortoise Gloss, Whiskey Fade Gloss, and Black Matte. I opted for the Brown Tortoise, which complements the sunglasses’ sleek, bio-based nylon frames which embodies Bajio’s commitment to sustainability. A unique feature is the sun ledge, located above the lenses, which helps block sunlight from entering the frames at the top. The ergonomic nose piece ensures a secure and comfortable fit on the bridge of the nose.

The Caballo’s frames are equipped with narrow temples that feature two-way flex hinges for added comfort. At the ends of the temples, ergonomic tips provide a snug fit, keeping the sunglasses securely in place during any activity.

Like all Bajio sunglasses, the Caballo model is fitted with premium lenses, available in either glass or polycarbonate. Glass lenses are priced $50 higher than the polycarbonate option. Both types are offered in seven different colors and shades, each tailored for specific lighting and outdoor conditions. I chose the Violet Mirror lenses, one of Bajio’s latest innovations. These lenses, with their red base, are ideal for low-light conditions, enhancing contrast and aiding in fish spotting.
To protect your investment, the Caballo frames come with a durable hard felt case for safe storage when not in use.
Thoughts on the Bajio Caballo Frames

Bajio Caballo Sunglasses
As an avid fisherman, I typically lean toward sunglasses with large frames and a snug wrap. The Caballo frames, with their medium wrap, offer a different look and fit than what I’m used to. The more relaxed fit took some getting used to, but I quickly came to appreciate it.
After wearing these frames for over a month, they’ve become one of my favorite pairs of sunglasses. The relaxed fit is incredibly comfortable, making the Caballo frames perfect for any occasion. Initially, I was concerned that the medium wrap might allow distracting light to seep in, especially in bright conditions while fishing. However, I’ve experienced no such issues. Stray light hasn’t been a problem, even in intense sunlight. These frames have proven versatile for all conditions, and when the chance to take a few casts arises, these are the ones I reach for.

Nice Cutthroat In Bright Conditions
Comfort is a standout feature of the Caballo frames. The two-way flex hinges make them easy to wear all day without any discomfort. The ergonomic rubber pads at all contact points are soft and practically unnoticeable, enhancing the overall comfort.

Comfortable and Snug Fit
Awesome Lenses
I was also pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Violet Mirror lenses. Though designed for low-light conditions with their red base, I’ve found them effective in all lighting, including very bright environments. There’s been no eye strain or discomfort, which speaks to the high-quality performance Bajio is known for. The clarity and definition these lenses provide are exceptional, making it easy to spot fish in the water and enjoy sharp details when viewing wildlife or hiking through the woods. In a market dominated by black and brown lenses, the violet color stands out and adds a unique touch. While I love the violet lenses, I’m confident that any of Bajio’s lens options would perform just as well.
In terms of accessories, I’ve always appreciated Bajio’s cactus leather cases. However, the new felt case included with the Caballo frames seems just as durable and should keep the sunglasses well-protected.
