Beginning as a sustainable organic farm in Colorado, Coalatree first emerged in the outdoor industry by creating a line of workwear. Since then, Coalatree has expanded their offerings to include an array of eco-conscious outdoor gear and apparel suited for the adventurer in all of us. This spring, I have been testing the Coalatree’s Kachula Adventure Blanket, a go anywhere, do anything piece of outdoor gear.

Initial Thoughts on the Coalatree Kachula Adventure Blanket

Out of the box, I could tell the Coalatree Kachula Adventure Blanket was well-made. The material feels thick and durable. The top fabric is a soft brushed nylon flannel and the bottom is a durable ripstop nylon. Both fabrics are made from 100% recycled materials. The vibrant, fun pattern of the fabric also caught my eye, the color Grandview, and depicts geometrically shaped mountains. Grandview is one of 10 color patterns to choose from.

Testing the Kachula Adventure Blanket

Springtime in the Rockies has been erratic in terms of weather. Mixes of rain, sun, wind, snow, and then sun again. When the sun has peaked out, the Kachula Adventure Blanket has been awesome for time at the park, soaking up sun. I was impressed by it being able to be used on slightly damp ground; I stayed completely dry on a sunny day after a spring snowstorm. Also, the soft brushed nylon upper fabric provides water resistance as well. I accidentally spilled my soda water on it while reading, and it just bubbled up and easily could be poured off the blanket. This will be amazing when using it with my kids and their inevitable spills.

Versatility

In addition to serving as a blanket, the Kachula Adventure Blanket has a zip-on hood that can be added if in need of a rain poncho, if the weather turns. It also folds up small and stuffs into a built-in zippered pouch, which can be used as a pillow. There’s no reason not to bring this multi-purpose blanket along for all of your adventures. I can imagine that it will live in my car so that I always have it available at a moment’s notice.

We recently took a road trip to Oregon, and the Kachula Adventure Blanket was an awesome addition to toss in the car. The blanket is lightweight and takes up very little space when stuffed into its pillow pouch. It was perfect to pull out for a roadside picnic at a city park.

Where the Kachula Adventure Blanket truly came in clutch was going to the beach. Again, stuffed into its pouch, it was super easy to carry. Even with the wet sand, we stayed dry while sitting on the blanket. And when it was time to go, the sand easily shook off to stow it away clean and ready for the next adventure.
