Traditional duffel bags are generally speaking, the go to bags for hauling around gear. But they’re not without their problems, often lacking functional organization and mostly deficient in any form of carrying comfort. To improve on these drawbacks Osprey has come out with the TrailKit organizational duffel. The bag is designed to offer greater functionality and more comfort than the traditional duffels, while also offering more versatility than a dedicated travel bag.

The Osprey TrailKit comes in a 40L carry and is available in three different colors, with a wide U-shaped opening catch-all main compartment. A ventilated externally accessible pocket, keeps wet and dirty shoes separate from the rest of your gear, or can be used for extra organization.

And speaking of organization, there’s no shortage of pockets including a scratch-resistant sunglasses pocket, a zippered opening water bottle pocket, and a tuck away helmet carry. Let’s dive in and explore the bag.

Rugged Meets Comfort

The TrailKit is constructed of a rugged and weatherproof Nylon Dobby Blend and Ballistic Nylon bottom, complemented by weatherproof zippers and backed up with a lifetime warranty for peace of mind. A molded back panel, with stow-able backpack straps and a sternum strap that helps keep you comfortable when you are on the move. And for added flexibility the backpack straps can double as carrying handles for a tote style carry. Plus with four grab handles you can easily maneuver the TrailKit in tight or awkward spaces.

Stowaway Space-mesh Harness

The TrailKit features a stowaway contoured harness and yoke that gives a comfortable backpack-style carry. Deploying the backpack straps is as simple as removing the harness straps from the tuck pocket and attaching each strap to the buckles located at the base of the pack. Securing the sternum strap and adjusting the harness straps as needed, resulting in a very cozy fit.

Main Compartment

The main compartment of the Osprey TrailKit offers up plenty of storage space. I was easily able to fit a full size sleeping bag in the pack.

Tuckaway Helmet Carry

The TrailKit also has the great feature of a deploy-able helmet carry for conveniently and easily carrying your helmet. The helmet carry does stretch and is strap adjustable, allowing it to fit a variety of different styles and size helmets.

 

Ventilated Footwear End Compartment

The Osprey TrailKit was built for the adventurer, it includes a ventilated end footwear compartment for stowing your dirty footwear when you are down or clean footwear when you are just getting started. The footwear compartment is separate from the main compartment, it is basically a water resistant nylon sac, that protects all of your other gear from getting wet or dirty from whatever you throw in this pocket.

Eyewear Pocket

Located just under the helmet carry pocket is a scratch-resistant, heat-embossed, nylon zippered pocket that is a great for stowing goggles or sunglasses.

Water Bottle / Gear Attachment

When using the Osprey TrailKit as a backpack it gives you the ability to unzip a stretchy mesh panel that will hold just about any size water bottle. Inside this pocket are webbing straps that extend from the pocket and attach to loops below the pocket allowing you to secure any external gear.

Organization Pocket

The final pocket on the TrailKit is a smaller organizational pocket that has zipper secured internal mesh dividers, which is a great place for keys, id, nutrition, wallet and a phone.
