Patagonia Javelina A/C Shoe Review

The Patagonia Javelina A/C is a casual shoe for the outdoorsy person that wants to keep his style in line with his activities. The Javelina A/C is an addition to a similar shoe called the Hog Tie which has the same styling but in a leather. While this style is great, it does not breath as much as you would want in warmer weather which gave the birth to the Javelina A/C.

Patagonia Javalina A/C Upper

Upper

The Patagonia Javelina A/C incorporates a mesh fabric in the upper allowing the shoe to breath much better than it’s brother the Hog Tie. For continuity and styling, the Javelina A/C still has oiled leather to give the shoe some form and styling which I find looks nice.

Patagonia Javalina A/C Outsole

Midsole and Outsole

The Midsole of the Patagonia Javelina A/C is made of a blown EVA that offers a cushiony ride for strolling around town and the local brew pubs. The midsole also includes a nylon shank under the arch for additional support, but it is not something that you notice all that much. The outsole is comprised of Vibram Rubber with a moderate lug pattern in case you want to get wild crazy and use these shoes for something other than casual use.

Patagonia Javalina A/C Fit

Other Factors

The shape of the Patagonia Javelina A/C was a little odd shaped in my opinion. I feel the shoe was a little too straight from heel to toe and does not accommodate enough for your foot curving inward a little. I felt when wearing this shoe that I was almost wearing a corrective shoe and that it was trying to push my forefoot outward or straight with my heel. For this reason, I would be a little cautious before buying and try them on in the store or make sure the online retailer has a good return policy.

As far as styling and looks go, I think the Javelina A/C looks good with both Shorts and Pants, so from a styling perspective it gets my thumbs up. For more information on the Javelina A/C and other Patagonia products, visit www.patagonia.com.
