Brooks Trance 9 Running Shoe Review

The Brooks Trance 9 is a premium moderate-stability training shoe and has been completely redesigned for this year. The Trance incorporates Brooks’ new-and-improved Progressive Diagonal Rollbar (PDRB®), which gives it good pronation-prevention without sacrificing ride- these shoes really transition well from heel strike to toe-off.

We are a big fan of Brooks’ BioMoGo midsole material- not only does it provide a very responsive feeling cushion, but, according to Brooks, will biodegrade 50 times faster than traditional EVA foam. Combined with HydroFlow, BioMoGo gives the midsole of the Trance 9 a great responsive, forgiving ride.

The upper of the new Trance is also much improved. The mesh is quite stretchy and very breathable, and the upper reinforcements integrate well with the lacing system to lock in the midfoot without feeling constrictive in the forefoot. The footbed does have a considerable buildup in the arch, so be sure to try these on before purchasing, especially if you have flatter feet (we’ve heard some rumors of Brooks even providing alternative insoles for those who have issues with the factory-provided liners).

At 11.5 ounces, the Trance 9 is among the lightest stability shoes in its category- yet another attribute that we like about the Trance 9. If you’re a moderate pronator looking for a plush ride and great fit, definitely give the Brooks Trance 9 a look!
