New Balance 1260v4 Running Shoe Review

The New Balance 1260v4 running shoe is a great option for overpronators looking for a maximum amount of cushioning and control. I decided to test the 1260v4 since I slightly overpronate and prefer a comfortable, multi-use shoe. The updates on this generation include redesigned T-Beam shank technology, a new medial post that extends further into the midsole, and an updated cushioning system throughout the shoe. New Balance’s FantomFit upper, combined with new and vibrant color schemes, make this a shoe not overly comfortable but very effective and stylish to run on road and trail.

New Balance 1260v4 Performance

New Balance designed the 1260v4 for the nearly half of the running population that overpronates. Being the fourth generation out, one of the new changes is in the medial post which has been extended into the midsole. This means that it helps stop pronation sooner than previous models. This shoe is promoted as New Balance’s premium model with its Abzorb cushioning technology. This is something I happily experienced right out of the box. If you enjoy the feeling of running on clouds, then this is the shoe for you. I decided to push the limits and test the shoe on all surface types including road, crush, singletrack, and steep-incline technical. My first run was a 10-miler on the road. In my opinion, this shoe is one of the most comfortable pavement options you can choose. Off road, it held up quite well for not being touted as a trail shoe. If I were using this shoe as my main trainer for higher mileage, I’d be confident that it would keep me on the road and away from injury.

The first thing I noticed upon lacing up these shoes is the Abzorb cushioning. It created a comfortable stride on pavement while the medial post that extends from the heel to the midsole along the inside of the shoe helps prevent pronation. The T-BEAM shank is designed to create torsional stability, and I noted this while taking a trip up and down Helena Mountain. I was surprised that I remained sure-footed when I was bombing down the mountain stepping on and around rocks, roots, and ruts.

The upper is a harmonious blend of function and style. Underneath the exterior is a support system that is pulled together with the no-sew overlay FantomFit upper. The mesh fabric is ideal for wicking sweat or moisture away from the foot. Overall, I was very pleased with the comfort of the toebox, as I have a medium-wide foot. It surrounded me with a web of comfort that securely hugged the pavement.

New Balance 1260v4 Final Thoughts

If you are a runner who is looking for top cushioning and stability, look no further. I’ve enjoyed testing this shoe on a wide variety of surfaces from sloppy trails to roasting pavement. The New Balance 1260v4 have held up very well considering the amount of miles and conditions they’ve experienced. There are three striking color schemes to choose from (I tried the Dazzling Blue with Green Flash & Neon Yellow). For more information on the 1260v4 and other New Balance footwear please visit: www.newbalance.com or www.amazon.com/newbalance.
