What really caught my attention was how much thought went into both the safety and comfort sides of the design. Smith didn’t just add new tech—they reengineered the shell while retaining elements of the original design. They packed it with complete Koroyd coverage. This feature helps absorb impact while keeping both weight and heat down. Additionally, they added a full internal injected roll cage. This roll cage further improves impact distribution.
The updated Mips Air Node system is now integrated right into the padding, so I never noticed any discomfort from it. It’s easy to forget it’s there—until you remember how crucial it is for angled crash protection.
Ventilation That Actually Works
While testing this helmet, I could definitely feel the airflow. With 20 optimized vents and new center airflow channels, the Forefront 3 is said to boost ventilation by 25% over the previous model. And though I haven’t worn the Forefront 2 to compare directly, I can say this one definitely does its job. My head stayed nice and cool even on long uphill sections where I really get the heart rate pumping.

Sunglass storage channels in the front and back keep your shades secure, while built-in compatibility for cameras and lights adds versatility.
