Under Armour Apparition II Running Shoe Review

In 2009, Under Armour entered the running shoe market and produced the first generation of UA shoes. We tested the original Apparition at that time and will be examining the Women’s update, the Apparition II in this review. The Apparition II is a neutral shoe with ample cushioning throughout, making it a very good trainer for long miles. The Apparition is a tad beefier than many of its neutral counterparts, weighing 10.3 ounces versus a mere 9.4 ounces for the 1064 by New Balance. Our testers found that despite the weight, the shoe felt light on their feet. The fit, however, was a bit sloppy on our wearers because of its’ wider fit and generous heel counter. At times, our testers felt that the shoe was moving around on them and they often found the need to cinch the laces tighter to counter the shifting. The UA Heat Gear liner is excellent in high heat conditions and testers felt that the upper is one of the most breathable on the market. The shoe has medium flexibility and energy return compared to other models. The Apparition II was not the best fit for a few of our testers, but perhaps individuals needing a bit more room in their neutral trainer or those wearing heel cups or using inserts would find these shoes a perfect fit. Shannon

Shannon, our fabulous female tester, takes gear testing to a new level for women. When not at work or school, she is most likely training for a marathon, climbing one of Colorado’s tallest peaks, riding her road bike, or skiing down a mountain slope. Like many women, Shannon gets cold easily, therefore, we try to test the best all weather gear to help her stay warm and dry during all day outdoor pursuits. In the warmer months, Shannon enjoys exploring the Colorado backcountry with her friends and dogs and attempts to escape for as many trail runs as her schedule allows. Shannon is a great women’s tester because she gives readers true insight into how a product may perform for an active woman.
