GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint Set Review
The GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint Set is the perfect companion for any camping trip, picnic or tailgating event you’re headed to this summer. A sturdy, durable, and remarkably large option for taking your drinks on the go.

GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint Set Size Comparison

I recognize that a pint glass is a pint glass, but when you put these next to a can of your favorite beverage, you don’t expect to be able to put a full can 12 ounces (with ice cubes) in the cup. The GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint cups are surprisingly big and you’ll be satisfied with whatever beverage you’re enjoying.

GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint Set – Performance

The GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint cups performed admirably. Kudos to the folks at GSI Outdoors for making a product that is sure to last for more than a few summers. The feel of them is solid and you can tell the steel is not a flimsy, thin layer. These were built to last. I went as far as to stand on the side of one of them, just to see how rugged they are. While it did tweak a bit, that’s 180 pounds of pressure on a little cup. (Hey, we’re supposed to test them, right!?)  :)

GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint Set Build

When testing these items, I tend to get a little nit-picky, so here’s the nit picky part. The cups are stainless steel. There’s no getting around that. So for all of the benefits of having an essentially bullet-proof cup, the main drawback I found was the presence of a metallic taste. I used these glasses with Coke, Dr. Pepper, water, OJ, milk, gin & tonic, light beer, craft beer and even whiskey. Throughout this arduous testing, there was always a reminder that I was, in fact, drinking from a metal cup. It was not over-powering and certainly not enough to promise you that these will be in my camping container for years to come, but it was there.

The other little item is the roll on the top of the cup. I found that after washing the cups, this roll seemed to be “open” enough to collect water. I have only had these cups for a couple weeks, but I’m interested to see if they collect anything else in that roll and if that is going to become a problem. Again, not enough to stop me from loving them and using them. I also think that a run through the dishwasher will eradicate any lingering “stuff” from that hard-to-reach spot.

Final Thoughts

Overall the GSI Outdoors Glacier Stainless Pint cups are just plain fantastic. You can drop them off a tall building, step on them and even let your dog chew on them, and they’ll be ready for another pint (after a quick wash) for the foreseeable future. I also think they would make a fantastic gift (along with something to put in them!) for any occasion. For more info on these and other GSI products, visit www.rei.com/gsioutdoors or www.amazon.com/gsi.
