Trigger Point Performance Kit Review

Have you been plagued by injury from running, cycling, etc.? You’re not alone. Thousands of athletes get injured every year and in order to get back training and racing at your peak, it’s important to re-hab correctly. According to Trigger Point Performance Therapy, there are 6 major areas in the body that are key players in the human biomechanical chain. They call this the ultimate 6 and is the foundation of keeping the body in its peak performance. These areas include; soleus (back of calf), quadriceps, iliotibial (IT-Band), psosas (near thigh and core), piriformis (rear end), and pectoris (chest).

Over the last few months, I’ve been using the Trigger Point Performance Kit which includes a quad baller, 2 massage balls, stabilizing block, a smaller roller for your calf, and a guidebook that walks you through many of the core stretches and exercises. One of the nice things about the products included in this kit is that they don’t take up a lot of room which makes them easy to store and travel with if you don’t have a lot of extra room or are on the road a lot.

Unlike some of the other therapy products out there, the Trigger Point products in this kit except for the block are covered in fabric which makes them feel a little softer on the skin than traditional rehab products covered in rubber or plastic. This is especially true when the products come in contact with a body part that has body hair. The rollers have a little bit of give, but not a lot as you want some rigidity to move and flex your muscles. This also goes for the two balls that come with this set. The foam block is soft, but it doesn’t lose its shape.

I am generally not one who gets a lot of injuries(knock on wood), but I do find myself to lack in the flexibility department. I typically don’t do a lot of stretching after a run, which is the reason I thought it might be good to test out the Trigger Point products. Increasing flexibility is generally good for you and can sometimes increase your performance output. However, you do have to be careful in that you stretch and use these products correctly.  I had an instance where I was shown how to use the products and the following weeks my knee was all out of whack. I don’t completely attribute it to the stretching or products, but it could have been a factor. That said, be careful.

One of the most useful resources I have found for use Trigger Points products is their You tube channel where you can find a number of different ways in which you can use all of their products. https://www.youtube.com/user/tptherapy  I like using their books as they are easy to read and understand, but having a video to follow seems to be a little easier for me to follow as I am better as a visual learner.

Overall, I have been pleased with the quality and performance of the Trigger Point products including the Ultimate 6 Kit Package. If you are looking to save some money, I suggest going with the starter kit and watching their You tube channel for instructions.
