The North Face Winter Runners Glove Review

Cold weather running season is here, are you prepared? If you are looking for a good running glove or mitt, then maybe you should check out The North Faces’ Winter Runners Glove. The Runners Glove is actually a misnomer, as it is a glove and mitten, all in one. TNF does this by providing a nicely fit glove with an extra “hood” that wraps over the fingertips to make the glove into a mitten. This added fabric is perfect for when the temperatures drop while out on a run and convenient because you don’t have to carry another layer or glove to throw on over. Instead, the “hood” or the mitten portion can be easily tucked away (and it stays tucked) under a flap of fabric on the top of the glove until you are ready to use them.

The North Face Winter Runners Glove is composed of TNF™ Apex fabric technology, which is designed for water and wind protection, as it includes a DWR finish. The fabric also has a bit of stretch to them which makes the fit more custom and comfortable. The gloves have mesh sides located at each finger to allow for some breathability. I found that when temperatures were below freezing I would start off with the mitten wrapped over the top of the gloves and would peel back the mitt as my hands warmed. If your hands continue to warm and you don’t open up the mitt, condensation can build within the mitt and result in cold hands on the second half of the run due to excess sweat/moisture. I wore these gloves on a few snowy days and my hands were still dry after 60 minutes in the elements! If you tend to have cold extremities, you could use these gloves/mitts as your outer shell and add a thin glove for added warmth.

Please note the reflective accents of the glove and mitt; the glove on the left has the mitt portion tucked away.

The North Face Winter Runners Glove is available in size XS to XL and is unisex sizing. I tested a size small and found that they were sloppy on my hands and I would have preferred a smaller size. TNF has a 5 point size guide with various measurements to ensure an adequate fit, this is great and all but I still think that men and women’s specific is sometimes for the best.

The Winter Runners Glove also feature ample reflectivity; there is a TNF logo on the top of each glove, as well as reflective dots along the little finger side on both the glove and mitten layers, a reflective strip at the base of the thumb, as well as reflective fabric over each thumb and index finger. This fabric also doubles to allow you to use your touch screen on your phone, iPod, etc. Another cool feature is the inclusion of a key pocket within the palm of the left glove. The pocket has an envelope design and the key fits securely inside. I know it is secure because it is kind of pain to get the house key in and out, especially at the end of a run.

In the warmer months, Shannon enjoys exploring the Colorado backcountry with her friends and dogs and attempts to escape for as many trail runs as her schedule allows. Shannon is a great women’s tester because she gives readers true insight into how a product may perform for an active woman.
