DREO MC706 2-in-1 Tower Fan and Heater Review

The DREO MC706 2-in-1 Tower Fan & Heater is built for year-round comfort, effortlessly switching between heating and cooling functions. I initially got it to heat my 26-foot bunkhouse travel trailer, but I was too excited to wait for camping season to test it out. Like many of you considering this product, I wanted to see how it would perform in my house.

I chose Dreo because I’ve had great success with their products before, particularly the Dreo MC710S Tower Fan, which has been my go-to for staying cool during summer. Dreo is known for its sleek designs, advanced features, and reliable performance, so I had high expectations for the MC706. After a month of use, here’s my detailed review of its performance, features, and practicality.

Assembly and Design

The MC706 arrived promptly and was well-packaged, ensuring no damage during shipping. Assembling the fan was straightforward, with clear instructions and minimal effort required. The base snaps together easily, though I was initially concerned about the durability of the plastic tabs. While the base feels a bit lightweight and less sturdy than the rest of the fan, it securely supports the tall 42.5-inch frame, which has a sleek, modern design that would fit well in many interiors.

Testing the DREO MC706

At 13.5 pounds, the MC706 is light enough to move between rooms. However, the carry handle at the back is just a flat cutout, making it somewhat awkward to grip, especially given the unit’s size. I recommend using both hands when moving it to avoid accidental drops.

DREO MC706 Portability

Cooling Performance

As a fan, the Dreo MC706 is a powerhouse. With 12 speed settings and a maximum wind speed of 29.2 ft/s, it delivers exceptional airflow. In my open-concept living room with vaulted ceilings, the fan could push air across the entire 26-foot space with ease.

Despite its high performance, the fan remains relatively quiet. At full speed, the noise level measures around 60 decibels, comparable to normal conversation. On lower settings, it’s as quiet as 25 decibels, equivalent to a whisper, making it ideal for bedrooms or workspaces. The adjustable oscillation angles (30°, 60°, 90°, and 120°) are a great touch, ensuring even air distribution wherever you need it.

Heating Performance

Unfortunately, the heating function didn’t live up to my expectations, especially when compared to its impressive cooling capabilities. The MC706 heats up almost instantly, thanks to its Hyperamics technology, but the airflow feels noticeably weaker in heating mode. It only offers five speed settings for heat, significantly fewer than the twelve available for the fan, and the warm air it produces is more “lukewarm” than genuinely hot.

DREO MC706 Remote Control

Remote Control

In my living room, which is an open-concept space with vaulted ceilings, I could feel the heat from the unit within about 6 feet. Beyond that range, the warmth dissipated quickly, and the heater struggled to make a noticeable difference in the overall temperature, even after running for an extended period.

The heating performance was much better in smaller, enclosed rooms like my bedroom. When I used the MC706 during chilly nights, it maintained a comfortable temperature while remaining impressively quiet. This makes it a suitable option for heating small areas where you don’t need intense heat output.

Another factor to consider is the heat output itself. I measured the unit after it had been running for some time and found that the heater core reached around 160°F, while the outer plastic stayed relatively cool at 143°F. This lower temperature is great for safety, especially in households with kids or pets, but it contributes to the heater feeling underpowered compared to other units I’ve used.

For larger spaces or anyone expecting rapid, intense heating, the MC706 may fall short. However, if you need a quiet and safe heater for small rooms or trailers, it can still be a good option.

Features and Functionality

The Dreo MC706 is packed with features that enhance its usability:

  • Remote Control: Adjust all settings from across the room.
  • 12-Hour Timer: Convenient for pre-heating or cooling a space before use or for automatic shutoff.
  • Heat-Cool Switch: Effortlessly toggle between fan and heater modes.
  • Temperature Control: Set a specific temperature between 41°F and 95°F.
  • Safety Features: Includes overheat and tip-over protection, child lock, and cool-touch housing.

These features make the MC706 user-friendly and versatile for various environments. I especially appreciated the quiet operation, which doesn’t disrupt sleep or conversations.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Powerful Cooling: Excellent airflow and adjustable oscillation angles make it a standout fan.
  • Quiet Operation: Ideal for bedrooms, offices, or other quiet spaces.
  • Sleek Design: Modern and compact enough to blend with most decor.
  • Versatile Features: Remote control, timer, and precise temperature settings add convenience.
  • Lightweight: Easy to move around despite its tall build.

Cons:

  • Underwhelming Heating Performance: Struggles to heat large spaces effectively.
  • Flimsy Base: The plastic base feels less durable compared to the rest of the unit.
  • Awkward Handle: The carry handle design could be more ergonomic.

Final Thoughts

The DREO MC706 2-in-1 Tower Fan & Heater excels as a fan, offering powerful airflow and near-silent operation. However, its heating capabilities are better suited for small, enclosed spaces rather than large, open areas. If you’re looking for a quiet, feature-rich unit to provide year-round comfort in smaller rooms, it’s a good option. For larger spaces, you might need a more robust heater. For more details or to purchase, visit DREO’s official website or amazon.com.
