Velocio Signature Jersey and Utility Bib Shorts Review

Velocio has only been around since 2014 but in the time since, they have established themselves as one of the premiere cycling apparel makers on the market. Starting out with a focus on best-in-class kit for women, they’ve since evolved to have comprehensive lineup of high quality men’s and women’s gear with a focus on sustainability. The company has done so well, in fact, that it was acquired by SRAM in 2022. From what I’ve seen, SRAM’s purchase has not lead Velocio to stray from its mission.

I’d like to briefly discuss Velocio’s sustainability efforts right up front, because I’ve been quite impressed with what they are doing. Starting with materials, 100% of their Spring/Summer jersey line is either made primarily from recycled ocean trash or natural fibers. They are members of both the Conservation Alliance and 1% For the Planet, giving back to causes that seek to keep our natural spaces and environment clean and available for the future. The company also uses compostable and biodegradable packaging for their products. Finally, a program called Velocio Renewed offers “refurbished” products at a discounted rate, leading to less items ending up in a landfill.

Velocio Signature Jersey Quality and Fit

I’ll get this out of the way, the Signature Jersey is one of the most comfortable riding tops I’ve worn and for the price tag, it should be. The recycled ultralight Italian milled fabric has that premium feel to it that just makes you feel like you’re wearing something designed for people with discerning tastes. It is soft and stretchy and doesn’t have any bothersome seams, due to the excellent stitching methods. Some fabrics tend to trade softness for breathability but in a big effort up a mountain, I didn’t feel my sweat getting trapped at all. The fit of the Velocio Signature Jersey definitely runs on the form-fitting/performance side with balanced compression but never feels too tight anywhere. They found a good mix of support and flex that contours to your shape. As for sizing, I went up to an XL from my typical large and I’m glad I did because it’s just big enough for me. I’d say that if you are a more athletic, thicker build, you definitely want to size up. Judging by the fact that they offer up to a 4XL, it probably isn’t uncommon for people to size up for a looser fit. The XL had enough length for my unusually long torso, which is always a great surprise for me. The best compliment I can give the Velocio Signature Jersey is that I didn’t really notice wearing it, and that’s what you want when you’re pushing it on your bike.

Velocio Signature Jersey Features and Functions

In addition to fitting great, it’s important for a bike jersey to carry the things you want to have with you. The Signature Jersey has 3 pockets on the back that have an anti-sag design to keep things in place. As a bonus, they have little flaps to help keep things from bouncing out while riding. I found these to be well sized for the items I often have in my back pockets, which are usually a lightweight rain jacket, some extra snacks, and my iPhone Pro Max phone when I’m not wearing cargo bib shorts. While they aren’t the largest pockets on the market, they were never an issue. Additionally, there is a zippered pocket on the right side pocket, which lets you secure some valuables like a key and cards. A nice premium touch on the Velocio Signature Jersey is the zipper garages at both the top and bottom of the zipper, to keep any rough parts from touching your skin.

Velocio Utility Bib Quality and Fit

Like the Signature Jersey, the Velocio Utility Bib shorts use an extremely comfortable and recycled fabric. They have that same wonderfully luxurious feeling, while the light weight and wicking performance lend to high performance on a hot day. There is a bit of compression in the Utility Bib, which I appreciate in a cycling short. The lack of any noticeable seams while riding help with the comfort and the leg gripper is smooth, without any irritating transitions. As for the fit, I am definitely on the stockier leg side for cyclists and the XL size stretched around my legs well. I often struggle with bibs being long enough for me at 6’1″ and all torso, but the Velocio Utility Bib was just long enough when stretched to not be uncomfortable. Between my legs and torso length, I probably could have gone up to the 2XL for a little more comfort. Just like the Signature Jersey, the Utility Bib comes in sizes from XS to 4XL. The chamois pad is very comfortable and well padded, without adding bulk. There wasn’t any bunching with any of the three saddles I rode on. Your mileage may vary so I suggest taking advantage of Velocio’s exceptional Signature Guarantee, which allows is basically a 30 day satisfaction guarantee.Velocio Utility Bib thigh pocket

Velocio Utility Bib Features and Functions

I’ve probably said this in another review, but I’ve reached the point where I can’t imagine a situation where I’d want to wear bibs without pockets and the Utility in Utility Bib refers to their three pockets. Two laser cut and bonded side cargo pockets are on the legs and one large pocket is placed by your lower back. The thigh pockets are a great size and can handle pretty much anything you’d want to put in there. I tend to put my phone in one of these pockets on casual rides where I might be taking my phone out for a picture (when it’s safe obviously) and I had no issues fitting my large iPhone in there. The pockets kept the contents tightly in place, so there was no risk of losing anything. That said, it made it a little harder to access than some other cargo bibs I’ve tested. It’s definitely a balance between security and access and it definitely wasn’t SO hard to access that I wouldn’t use the pockets. Stuffing a thing of gummies or gels in there was great as well. I really liked the large pocket on the low back, particularly if I wanted a secure place to put my phone on a rough gravel section and have it balanced on my back. In general, I just love having multiple options between my jersey and bibs to arrange my cargo on a ride.

Velocio Utility Bib and Signature Jersey Review Summary

Velocio has become one of my go to recommendations for premium cycling apparel and their Utility Bib and Signature Jersey are another example of why that it is. The Signature Jersey is a luxurious top with a great fit and barely-there feel. The dual zipper garages and zippered pocket are nice extra touches and the use of recycled fabric rounds out a top-notch product. The Utility Bib shorts are an excellent companion to the Signature Jersey, with a similarly quality fabric feel and an extremely comfortable chamois pad. With three very functional pockets, you’ve got great storage options for your nutrition and small items. Overall, the Velocio Utility Bib and Signature Jersey make up one of my favorite cycling kits and if you can afford them, I strongly suggest the investment. For more info visit www.velocio.cc.
