The LowePro ProTactic BP 450 AW III is a redesigned version of LowePro’s modular workhorse camera backpack. We test it out as a dedicated camera backpack and a hybrid camera/travel bag. How does the LowePro hold up in both scenarios and who’s it best suited for? Does it carry a heavy load of camera gear comfortably? Is it versatile enough to pull double-duty as a travel bag? How do the accessories LowePro produces work with the bag? Is the LowePro ProTactic Utility Belt III worth the extra upgrade price? Watch the video to find out…and if it’s worth the $320 retail price.
The LowePro ProTactic BP450 AW III is a robust, tactical-style photography backpack designed for durability and versatility. Made from tough recycled polyester, it features MOLLE panels, multiple attachment points, and customizable dividers to securely carry camera gear. Weighing 6.2 lbs., it’s heavy but well-padded with a hip belt and shoulder straps for comfort, though the lack of load lifters impacts adjustability for longer hikes. The bag offers four access points for quick gear retrieval, a laptop sleeve, and thoughtful interior organization. While excellent for event and wildlife photography with its rugged build and quick accessibility, it’s less ideal for hybrid travel or backcountry use due to its bulk and weight. Overall, it excels in professional, gear-intensive scenarios but is specialized for focused use cases.
