Kelty Woobie Sleeping Bag Review

What’s the best way to get your kids into camping?  Well, clearly by getting them their own gear to bring to the party. The Kelty Woobie is a good pick for your child to stay warm and happy throughout the night. This junior-sized bag fits kids to 4 feet tall, and was perfect for my 44″ five year old. His favorite part of the bag: “Everything!!!”

I may have cracked the code to a successful camping trip, get your kid one item of their own for the campsite, and the rest of the trip will go smoothly (assuming there are other kids, no bears, lots of food and smores, late nights, good weather, a short drive…).

Features of the Kelty Woobie

Testing the Kelty Woobie Sleeping Bag

This bag is rated to 30 degrees, which should keep your little tikes warm for most three-season adventures. The bag features double zippers, so it can be used in the traditional sense on cool nights or as a bed/blanket combo on warmer ones. The lining is made of polyester taffeta which is comfortable on their skin. Kelty also elasticized the hood to keep them warm without having to adjust a drawcord.

The bag is backed by Kelty’s Lifetime Warranty (I wonder what they consider a lifetime for a toddler product, haha). Also, why can’t adult bags come in such cool colors and designs?

Performance of the Kelty Woobie

Utilizing Kelty’s Cloudloft insulation, it kept my son warm through the night. He was cold initially on a 40 degree night, but once he put on a sweatshirt there were no complaints. Other than the warmth provided, the best feature is the anti-snag liner built just inside the zipper. I still don’t understand why all bags are not built with this simple solution.

Beyond true performance, the other kids at the campsite were jealous of this “awesome kids bag!” I try not to spoil my children, but I can make an exception when it comes to outdoor gear.

Final Thoughts

Kelty Woobie Sleeping Bag Review

What do you mean it’s only for camping?

The bag was a hit for our first camping trip. It kept my lil man warm and happy, which sets the stage for many future excursions. And it is reasonably priced for a bag that you know the kids will outgrow after a few years. The Kelty Woobie also comes in pink/purple for the precious girls in your life. For more info on the Woobie and other Kelty products, visit www.kelty.com or www.amazon.com/kelty.
