Whether you are camping for the weekend, living in a van by the river, or tailgating, a functional camp table is a must! We live in our van for 6 months out of the year and have been struggling with the outdoor cooking situation. The cheap, department store tables are too flimsy and plastic for a hot camp stove and aren’t reliable enough with two dogs running around. It has, at times, been a dinner catastrophe. So I began the hunt for the perfect table and the CORE Flexrail Outdoor Cook Table joined our adventures.
CORE is a company that began when some employees of an outdoor equipment company used their experience to create their own line of outdoor gear. The result has been some amazing outdoor gear that is practical, functional and made for everyone. The Flexrail Cook Table is about as functional as I could find. It is a dual surface table designed to withstand the heat of your camp stove and hold everything you need for prepping your meals.
Sturdy, Quality Construction
When my new Flexrail Cook Table arrived, it was ready to go right out of the box. I didn’t have to assemble anything or read through complicated directions. I took it out of the box and set it up to see all this table had to offer. The table is designed of steel, which makes it a little heavy, but it is definitely sturdy and stable. Built in to the table is a paper towel holder and bottle opener. The blue rails around the outside hold the included accessories which include two drink holders, a trash bag holder and four accessory hooks.
The surface of the table is split in to two materials. Half is powder coated steel with holes for drainage and heat dissipation. The other half is a thick, UV-resistant, plastic prep surface. Even though I had read the specs on the table before ordering, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of space this table offers. And with the Flexrail system, you have even more room for things without taking up table space.
Flexrail Outdoor Cook Table Accessories
Included with the cook table are two drink holders that attach to the Flexrail. This is a great way to: 1. keep your drink from spilling if the table gets bumped, and 2. keep your work surface clear for food prep. The included paper towel holder is also a great space saver and keeps the paper towel neat and tidy. It can flip out or stay neatly tucked under the table and out of the way.
The included trash bag holder really saves space and can be moved to any side of the table. It keeps the camp table clear of trash and your campsite neat and tidy. Four accessory hooks attach anywhere on the flex rail. They are great for hanging BBQ tools, pans or grocery bags. Lastly, there is a zippered pouch that attaches to the table legs with hook and loop. They are great for holding spices or smaller items on the outside stretch pockets. The zipper compartment stores the cup holders and hooks when not in use.
Height Versatility
Who hates to stoop at a table? I do! I’m 6 feet tall and my husband is 6″2. A short table is not what we wanted. The Flexrail Outdoor cook table has 4 height levels. See CORE’s photo below. The tallest height I would describe as “bar height.” It’s a great height for cutting veggies and for socializing. The table is plenty study enough to lean on while sharing a laugh with friends and goes low enough to be a “coffee table” while sitting around in lawn chairs.
The height versatility and the design of this table also makes it a great option for someone in a wheelchair. The legs open up all the way with no crossbars leaving plenty of space underneath. I love that about this design. It’s also a great place to store a cooler or a large water jug so you aren’t tripping over it.
Adjusting the height was super easy. Press the large oversized push button to unlock the legs and you pull the table up or down to the desired height. I use my foot on the bottom rung of the legs to stabilize the bottom while I adjusting the height.

Closing the Table was Problematic
The CORE Flexrail Outdoor Cook Table is easy enough to open up but a little tougher to take down. Reasonably, I would want to lay the table on it’s side and close the legs. There is no lock on the table’s center hinge so it can get a little floppy while trying to work with it. I ended up laying it all the way upside down to unlock the legs. The legs close down nicely and nest in the underside of the table for closing.
The table is designed to store the accessories inside of the canvas bag which is a brilliant idea. The cup holders and hooks store nicely in that way. The trash bag holder, however, adds another component to fit into the folded table and despite my best efforts and re-organization, I could not get it flat enough to close the table. I ended up leaving it out and had to store it separate from the table.

The plastic clip on the trash bag holder prevents the table from closing completely. I store it separately.
The most disappointing was the closure design of the table. CORE uses two plastic pressure closures that are supposed to snap the table together. It works, sort of. The table is designed with a single handle on the plastic side of the table. With the weak closure snaps and one handle, the heavy side of the table breaks free and flops open on the ground (or against your leg, ouch!). I had to fashion a strap that I wrapped around the Flexrail to keep the table closed so I could carry the table after it was closed. CORE should, at a minimum, add a second handle or a closure strap so that it doesn’t fall open.
- The small plastic clip is the only thing from keeping the table from falling open.
- Two handles would have been better.
- I used my own strap to secure the table so it wouldn’t fall open while I carried it

Final Thoughts on the CORE Flexrail Outdoor Cook Table
The Flexrail Outdoor Cook Table has been a great addition to our camper van adventure. The huge surface area, 50″ x 26″, coupled with the space-saver Flexrail system has been a game changer. We now use that table for everything from cooking, food prep, mixing margaritas and making my morning coffee. The metal end with the holes is also my dish washing area. We absolutely love it. The initial frustration with the closure of the table was rectified by adding my own strap. I hope CORE changes the design in that aspect, but otherwise, it’s a sturdy winner.
The table is not lightweight at 29 lbs., but the sturdiness of this table is unbeatable. The powder coated cooking surface seems indestructible and holds our magnetic light perfectly. Well done, CORE! CORE has additional accessories available for their Flexrail system to include a lantern holder and accessory bags. The price is reasonable for such a sturdy, well made table at $149.99. If you would like to learn more or check it out for yourself, visit coreequipment.com.
