Running through the mountains is no joke! Whether you are on your bike or on your feet, it is imperative that you have sharp vision and eye protection while navigating the trails. I recently ordered the SCOTT Torica Sunglasses to protect my eyes while trail running. And they were an excellent choice!
SCOTT has been around since 1958, constantly innovating outdoor gear. From ski poles to goggles, boots to bike frames, SCOTT has been a front-runner in product development centered around the needs of outdoor athletes.
The SCOTT Torica Sunglasses Out of the Box
My flashy new glasses arrived well-packaged and protected directly from SCOTT. They came with a protective clamshell nylon zippered case and a drawstring bag for additional protection. Conveniently, the drawstring bag also doubles as a cleaning cloth.
The glasses feature a rigid plastic frame with rubber nose pieces and rubber stem ends. None of the parts are adjustable, so it’s important to check the specs before ordering. SCOTT describes the fit as small-to-medium, which I feel is accurate. I have a fairly average-sized woman’s head, and the glasses fit snugly (in a good way) and stayed in place nicely.
Super Lightweight
The SCOTT Torica weighs just over 1 ounce (34 grams). The straight stems and rubberized nose pieces allow the glasses to rest gently on my nose without shifting. As I ran through the trails, I was relieved that they didn’t bounce at all. The rubberized stems grip my head well, yet they’re thin enough to be barely noticeable. They fit comfortably under my hat and left enough room for my over-the-ear headphones.
- Rubber, no-slip nose pads.
- Straight stems leave plenty of room for my hat and headphones.
- No sun is sneaking though the top of these glasses.
The simple construction of these molded frames avoids unnecessary weight and complexity. The only metal parts are the tiny screws securing the stems to the frame. They are brilliantly designed and feel weightless on my face. A standout feature is the toric-shaped lenses, they bubble slightly away from my long eyelashes, giving my eyes room to breathe. Even in full sun, I didn’t feel heat buildup behind the lenses, and the close-fitting frame offered excellent wind protection.
Vision Amplified by the SCOTT Torica Sunglasses
SCOTT’s Amplifier lenses enhance contrast and clarity, improving your vision regardless of terrain. While not polarized, these lenses are excellent for identifying details on the trail. I could easily read my running watch, which is sometimes distorted by polarized lenses. The mirrored finish effectively reflects bright sunlight, helping me focus clearly on the trail ahead.

The lenses are replaceable and interchangeable. My pair came with the S3 lens, rated for bright sunlight and offering 100% UVA/UVB protection. SCOTT also offers lenses for overcast conditions (S2) and low-light environments (S1). This makes the Torica sunglasses versatile and reliable for a variety of trail and weather conditions. The curved lenses offer a wide field of view, shielding my eyes from trail debris while giving me excellent peripheral vision, something I greatly appreciate for safety.

Sporty and Flashy, the SCOTT Torica Sunglasses are a WIN!
Whether you compete in your sport or not, you will find that the SCOTT Torica is a real winner. The large lens provides excellent peripheral vision with minimal head movement. The Amplifier lenses enhance the contrast in the trail allowing you to effectively navigate hazards. The mirrored lenses and form fitting shape provide for the ultimate in sun protection without the sun sneaking in around your lens at high noon.
I haven’t had to test the durability of these glasses yet, but the look and feel of the construction is solid. They were designed as cycling glasses which means they would integrate with a helmet perfectly. I was so pleased that they also worked well for trail running AND they look fashionable enough to wear with an outfit. They retail at $119 and are worth every cent. These unisex glasses come in a wide variety of flashy colors. Head to scott-sport.com and find the glasses perfect for you.
