Trusty Salomon. If you have read any of my shoe reviews, you know that Salomon is my tried and true favorite. I’ve used many models over the years for both road and trail running. I have found that overall, the brand is trustworthy in their quality and durability. Last season, I did a review on the Aero Glide 2 road running shoe and was super pleased with what I found. In March of 2025, Salomon released the updated model, the Aero Glide 3. This new lighter version of the Aero Glide has me really flying through my speedwork! Or should I say gliding?
Durable Quality in the Construction
Salomon designed the Aero Glide 3 with a more notable contrast to their trail shoes. The uppers are a lightweight textile mesh that really breathes well. The shoe is lined with an ultra smooth lining and I have had zero issues with hot spots or chafing. The tongue and ankle collar are less bulky than the previous model of the Aero Glide. The tongue has a retention loop for the laces and lies nicely over your arch with no bunching or bulges. The laces are spaced with 4 attachment spots on each side and an optional 5th hole if you need to snug up the heel. The Aero Glide 3 is very true-to-size and a bit more narrow than the previous model.
- Lace retention loop on the tongue keep everything neatly in place
- Tough toe rands are incredibly lightweight.
- The mesh upper really lets your foot breath.
The insole of the Aero Glide 3 is the removable Salomon Ortholite. It was easy to remove and dry completely. Salomon was consistent in their nicely fitted heel cup. The excellent fit eliminates any hot spots in the heel area during long runs. The inside of the heel cup area is lined with a silky smooth material that is sure to be loved by the blister prone. The midsole is the SalomonFOAM evo, a lightweight foam with superior energy absorption and energy return.
Salomon overhauled the underside of the Aero Glide 3 by changing up the outsole completely. The concave space under the heal is double the size, which makes me feel like I am running on air. Salomon’s Road Contagrip® combines flat, wide lugs for grip on flat, hard surfaces, with a compound that balances durability and adhesion. They are ideal for road running.
- New and Improved in 2025!
Salomon’s Attention to Fine Details
As you look at the newly designed Aero Glide, you notice an unusual looking “fin” on the heal of the shoe. That’s because Salomon shifted excess internal material to the outside of the shoe, right where it should be. If you have heels prone to blisters, then you are blatantly aware when the thick seam of a heal is going to be problematic. You won’t find that here! Salomon’s genius design to pull and sew on the outside of the shoe creates a comfortable, smooth heel cup.

Salomon has the ability to make the most durable shoe rand out of the thinnest materials. The almost invisible toe protection on the upper of this shoe is amazingly tough. The vents in the toe allow for quick water shedding when you get a soaker. These may not be features you think of when first looking at a shoe, but will be so thankful for when needed.
Featherweight Improvements
Salomon did a lot of impressive work in dropping unnecessary weight from Aero Glide’s awesome ride. Since the previous model, they have dropped one of the lace loops, used lighter material in the uppers and lining, and eliminated the excess padding in the tongue and heel area. The heel to toe drop had been reduced to 8mm (from 10mm). A narrower footbed also contributes to less excess weight. The shoes have dropped a whopping 25 g from their waistline to weigh in at 205 g.
The SalomonFOAM evo midsole feels weightless but, magically bouncy. I feel like my foot turnover and cadence have improved. I’m looking for a great season of speedwork in this beauty of a shoe.

Salomon Aero Glide 3: Road Running Success
Salomon really did an overhaul on the Aero Glide 3. It is ultra light, yet has ultra plush cushioning for smooth support over long distances and changing terrain. The lower drop improved the stability of this shoe tremendously. Take off for your long run in the Aero Glide 3. I suspect you won’t even need a break in period. This well fitting, supportive shoe is a game changer for my speedwork. It is competitively priced at $160 (same as the previous model). I encourage you to give it a try.
