Salomon has long been my go to for running shoes. While a majority of my runs are on sandy or rocky trails, I needed to add a good pair of road running shoes to my arsenal of ultra-running gear. After looking over Salomon’s selection, I decided that the Salomon Aero Glide 2 was the correct choice. I have always liked the higher drop of Salomon’s Speedcross trail shoe at 11mm and thought that the similar drop of the Aero Glide 2 (10mm) would make the road training more comfortable. I was so pleased to find that it wasn’t just the drop that made these shoes amazing. They were comfortable and super lightweight (230g) but stuck to the pavement and felt like I was wearing springs on my feet. The Aero Glide 2’s were a solid choice!
Quality Salomon Construction
Salomon designed the Aero Glide 2 with the same rugged construction as their trail shoes but everything was so much lighter! The uppers are a lightweight textile mesh that really breathed. The tongue and ankle collar were nicely padded which made for comfortable standard lacing. Even the heal of the shoe was nicely padded. The laces are spaced with 5 attachment spots on each side and an optional 6th hole if you need the heel pulled in a little more snug. The Aero Glide 2 is very true-to-size and not excessively wide or narrow.
The insole of the Aero Glide 2 is the removable Salomon Ortholite. They have a great heel cup that seamlessly blends in to the side of the shoe and eliminates any hot spots in the heel area during long runs. It was easy to remove and dry completely. The midsole is super cushy. If you want to feel like you are running on a cloud, instead of pavement, these are the right shoes. To finish out on the fantastic ride, the outsole is tough, but super grippy. I could get a good push, even on smooth, wet pavement, and the shoes were very responsive.
The Salomon Aero Glide 2: Attention to Detail
Salomon really took the time to add some fine details to this running shoe. I don’t just mean the fashionable look and style. Two reflective patches were added to the shoe for night time safely. There is also a super lightweight rand on this shoe in the areas that will protect the textile in the high scuff areas.
Salomon included their signature Sensi-Fit technology in the Aero Glide 2. The Sensi-Fit cradles the foot from the midsole to the laces, so that this shoe fits perfectly. This allowed my narrow feet to fit nicely into a standard width shoe. Another reason to love Salomon!
Excellent Flight from Take off to Landing
I want to talk in depth about the smooth, responsive ride in these shoes. The outsole is a thin tough layer without a lot of traditional “tread.” It is low profile with many small circular contact points. This provides for incredible grip when pushing forward but an easy release that makes you feel like you are flying. The soles have a reverse camber rocker geometry that keeps you rolling through your stride. This thin outsole is tough, but the thin construction eliminates the feel of swinging a heavy shoe.
The landing is comfortable for many reasons. The shoe has a cushioned responsive midsole. Along the midline of the sole, the outsole is split and your heel can land comfortable without shifting the fit of the shoe (note my supinated landing above). This can also be beneficial for a smooth landing on uneven terrain. This lets you land neatly, stick to the road and just keep flying! I was blown away by the comfort and smooth feel of these shoes. I recently ran a road race in them and have now dubbed them my “fast shoes.”

The Salomon Aero Glide 2: We’re Hitting the Road!
Another season of ultra-running is in full swing. The Salomon Aero Glide 2 is my new favorite for speedwork and road runs. Aside from fitting great and coming in some great colors, the Aero Glide 2 is an all around great distance shoe for the road. I found that the maximal cushioning did not compromise the stability of the shoe. It is plush but responsive. The outsole is just plain genius and I scratch my head wondering why we ever ran around in heavy road shoes before now.
While not everyone may agree with me, I was happy that Salomon made these shoes in some pretty colors for women and a variety of color combinations for men. There is sure to be something to fit everyone’s style. The shoes are competitively priced at $160. If you want to check out the Salomon Aero Glide 2 for yourself, visit www.salomon.com.

How is the aero glide 2 different then the original aero glide? abobo
Hi Abobo,
Thanks for your question! I never owned the Original Aeroglide for comparison but by reading through Salomon’s descriptions, it looks like the drop and stack height are the same. Some additional cushion and rigidity has been added around the heal cup to prevent slippage.
