It’s the heart of summer, which for many means getting out of town, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time in the water. Luckily I’ve been able to do all three this summer with trips to Belize and Northern Michigan, spending most of my days in the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean Sea and Lake Michigan. Even luckier, with all of this time in the water, my mornings start with donning my new favorite swimsuit by Free Fly; the Women’s Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top and Wavebound Surf Short.
I am a huge Free Fly fan, loving the bamboo sun protection and apparel they are known for (see previous Free Fly Apparel and Bamboo Flex Hoody reviews). Free Fly makes simple, comfortable apparel to allow wearers to get outside and adventure. They pay specific attention to innovative, simple designs and fabrics that are comfortable and perform well. And Free Fly is a community focused company that enjoys giving back to conservation and humanitarian initiatives.
Out of the Box Quality
I was excited when my Free Fly package arrived about a month ago because I knew summer was near and this gear was going to help me get out and adventure. (In addition to the Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top and Wavebound Surf Short, I also received the Bamboo Current Tank and Bamboo-Lined Active Breeze Short reviewed separately). The Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top and Wavebound Surf Short came in a beautiful bluish green color called Stormy Sea. The thick and stretchy TideKnit fabric feels durable and high quality, and impressively is made from recycled ghost fishing nets, repurposing wasted materials that cause harm to the ocean environment.

Fit and Feel of the Free Fly Women’s Wavebound Swim Wear
Both the Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top (in size small) and Wavebound Surf Short (in size extra small) fit perfectly. As a forty-something mom of two, I love the design of this swimsuit, offering a flattering fit with full coverage, UPF 50+ sun protection, and comfort and ease of movement for watersports and chasing my kids around.
The Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top has a scoop front and back design with substantial straps and built-in removable cups, offering medium support. I feel fully supported and find the four-way stretch fabric and anti-chafe seam design allow for ease and comfort of movement.
The Wavebound Surf Short offers great coverage with a boy short style and 2.5 inch inseam. I particularly enjoy the wide and comfortable mid-rise waistband that I can wear up to around my belly button.

Wavebound Performance
I have put this swimsuit through the wringer over the past month, spending a week with day-long snorkeling sessions in Belize, trips to the pool with my kids, followed by our family trip to Northern Michigan with daily swims in the lake and wakeboard sessions.
I love the all-day comfort I get from wearing the Free Fly Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top and Wavebound Surf Short. They both hold up well to days in and out of the water. The chafe-free seam design works well whether wet or dry. I can easily wear this swimsuit all day long without any discomfort. The TideKnit fabric dries fairly quickly, which also helps with long term wear.
The Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top provides plenty of support on top during watersports activities. The generous coverage of the Wavebound Surf Short allows for critical sun protection when snorkeling, and a level of modesty that allows me to move around without worry. Both the Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top and Wavebound Surf Short stay in place whether jumping off the snorkel boat or getting pulled out of the water on a wakeboard.
Both the Wavebound Scoop Bikini Top and Wavebound Surf Short are durable and will likely withstand use for more than one season. They have been easy to care for – I have washed in the washing machine and hung to air dry. The color has stayed vibrant, and saltwater and chlorine from the pool and hot tub have not caused any damage.

Wavebound swimsuit stays in place!
